The groundbreaking work of the Fair Housing Center of Southeast & Mid Michigan was acknowledged in a new study titled “Paired-Testing Pilot Study of Housing Discrimination against Same-Sex Couples and Transgender Individuals.”
The HUD-funded Urban Institute study tested for discrimination against same-sex and transgender individuals and advanced recommendations for future research and fair housing practitioners. This new 2017 Urban Institute study frequently referenced a 2007 study conducted by the Fair Housing Centers of Michigan which found different treatment against same-sex couples in rental housing, housing for sale, and home-purchase financing.
Kristen Cuhran, Associate Director of the Fair Housing Center of Southeast & Mid Michigan, was also acknowledged in the 2017 study for her work on the panel of experts who made contributions to the research team’s understanding of the housing-related challenges lesbians, gay men, and transgender individuals can face and to protocol
design and data analysis considerations.
