Great news for renters’ fair housing rights: as of April 2, 2025, Michigan’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act (ELCRA) prohibits discrimination in rental housing based on source of income.

According to ELCRA, source of income includes benefits or subsidy programs such as housing assistance, Housing Choice Vouchers, public assistance, veterans’ benefits, child support, alimony, Social Security, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and other programs administered by any federal, state, local, or nonprofit entity.

For more information, please visit our Source of Income pagedownload our new fact sheet, or call us at 877-979-FAIR.

April is the 58th Anniversary of the Fair Housing Act, and we are holding a special fundraiser.

Please donate now to help us continue enforcing this important law and upholding the housing rights of all people.

Everyone deserves a place to call home, free from discrimination.
